Our objective is as follows:
| |
Make management concepts
simple and easy to understand and apply. Ever increasing
new management concepts combined with jargons and
acronyms are confusing to say the least. Management
books are getting thicker as well as boring. Inspired
by the writing style of Al Ries and Jack Trout,
our objective here is to present management concepts
in an easy and interesting manner. |
| |
Provide a forum where practitioners
and students of management can share their thoughts
and ideas about different management concepts. |
| |
Provide commentary of current business
news and actions of companies to enhance the understanding
of management concepts. |
| |
To tap, challenge and encourage the
intellectual management potential in you. |
We intend to cover a wide range of management topics in this website,
some of which are: Marketing, Positioning, Marketing Strategy, Advertising,
Public Relations, Organization Structure, Mergers & Acquisitions,
Human Resources, Finance, Sales Management, Branding, Corporate
Strategy, Time Management, Competitive Strategy, Communications,
Entrepreneurship, Public Relations, Distribution, Accounting, Management
Accounting , Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Customer Satisfaction,
Customer Retention, General Management, Information Systems and
Organization Behavior.
Management ideas are
not anybody’s exclusive domain
Taking my own experience into consideration, I believe
new ideas can come from anywhere and from anyone. While
attending a class on organizational behavior at the
University of Illinois, US, I came up with the idea
of "Theory of Organization Misfit" which won
me the First Prize from the Association of Corporate
Growth, Chicago. After losing a customer, I developed
a unique concept of Customer Math. Review of my presentation
by the Chairman of the company I worked for, suggested
the 80/20 rule of developing an effective presentation.
Similarly, I think there are thousands of you out there
who have a unique management idea or an interesting
thought based on your experience and logical thinking.
Development of unique management ideas and thoughts
is not the sole domain of management gurus, top executives
or Ph.Ds as some think.
As such, I invite you to express yourself and share
your ideas here. We will not ask you for your credentials
and background. It is because of this that we are not
mentioning the background of the authors on this site.
All we are interested in is your thought and uniqueness
of your idea. Will it change the way readers think about
the subject? Does it challenge old assumptions? Does
it show another way?
Barriers I faced when trying
to
express my management ideas
Even though, I had
the opportunity to write articles on management and get
them published, I faced a number of barriers in doing
so and I still do.

While I was acquiring
my undergraduate degree in hotel management in U.S.,
I came up with two new thoughts related to the hospitality
industry. Encouraged by my room-mate’s success
in getting a paper published, I also decided to
pen down my thoughts hoping that the industry journals
would publish it. I faced a lot of resistance. Who
the hell was I? How can we print an article by an
undergraduate? An Indian? Finally, one of the Canadian
hospitality journals printed my article. An American
journal also wrote a very short news item stating
my concept. |
| |
When I wanted to get my first book
titled Customer Math published abroad, I also faced
tremendous resistance. The Japanese thought that
they were the experts on customer satisfaction and
they didn’t need an Indian to tell them about
it. You would have to read a review done by an American
to understand the resistance I faced. |
| |
When I approached Economic Times,
Delhi to review my book, I was told that they do
not review Indian books. Also, I believe they had
outsourced reviewing of books to a foreign agency.
It seems, they would rather review a foreign book
on jews in Economic Times than one by an Indian.
It seems that both in U.S. and in India, my nationality
was a barrier.
I am hoping that this website will give everyone
an opportunity to express their thought, ideas and
views on management.
